How MyHandyNet Got Started Print E-mail
In September of 1999 the Son of Bill Castro, Levi Castro, suffered a broken neck during a surfing accident in the waters of Santa Cruz California. That day Bill called his close friend Jimmy Jones to watch his house and dog while they were away at the hospital.

Today Levi exercises, studies, visits with friends and has a life! It was a long and very difficult path, but Bill led his family through a tragic event most people never experience firsthand. There were countless problems, roadblocks and red tape which prevents most from doing what's right for the ones they love and whom desperately need their help. Over the years Bill would frequently talk with Jimmy about the difficulties he, Levi and his family had to endure. Bill and Jimmy frequently dreamed up and exchanged many good ideas for improvement, but usually felt helpless. None the less, the two close friends share something in common, a deep burning desire to help improve the lives of people with disability, their family and caregivers.

Finally, at one point Bill was installing ceiling lift systems and Jimmy was looking for a new and meaningful direction. With a nudge from Bill's friend, Bob Ludlow, Bill asked Jimmy to look into building a website to help people buy and sell used medical equipment. But after researching the topic it became clear to Bill and Jimmy that the website could do so much more for the community of people with a disability.

With Levi as the inspiration and Bob as the legal coach and financier, Bill and Jimmy brainstormed and developed many ideas which gave birth to the first draft of MyHandyNet April 17, 2006. As they say, the rest is history.
